Approved and Potential Uses of Topical Itraconazole and Phenytoin:

Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal agent that selectively inhibits cytochrome P-450-dependent enzymes. Without these enzymes, ergosterol synthesis is impaired, which inhibits fungal cell wall synthesis. It may also inhibit endogenous respiration, impair triglyceride and/or phospholipid biosynthesis, and interact with membrane phospholipids. Itraconazole is used against histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, cryptococcal meningitis, aspergillosis, onychomycosis and diverse dermatomycoses.

Phenytoin Sodium is known as an anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant, but as a topical agent it’s used to promote wound healing. It likely works through several mechanisms of action that modulate various stages of wound healing. It’s known to promote granulation, but may also stimulate fibroblast proliferation, inhibit collagenase activity and promote collagen formation.

Stera Base is an emollient oil-in-water emulsion that’s stable over a wide pH range, compatible with diverse active pharmaceutical ingredients, and proven to be an excellent base that promotes penetration and retention of active ingredient.

Consider using ACTIVE Prep Kit V to promote wound healing associated with the following conditions:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
